Columbus in Chains: Christian Torres

Now I admire the girl in this story who wrote her mind in the book about what she thought about Columbus. We all should do the same. We also should wonder, as we did in class, about the kind of man he was. He wasn't important, least a hero when he found the New World, I think he was just lucky. It was a good thing that such different cultures were able to join together to make one such as ours, but what they had to go through during that time, it was tough. Columbus made no heroic act, but still he deserves to be a historic figure to be remembered as the lucky one that was able to find a whole new world before someone else did.

The Storm: Christian Torres

I think that it's unbelievable that that act of infidelity could've ocurred unnoticed. Calixta acted out of instinc and just went of with her feelings at the momento while her husband Bobinot was away with her son Bibi as a storm passed and kept them from arriving to their house. As the father and son were full of love for their mother, Calixta, however, showed no regard for them during the time she was with Aclée. After Alcée left, she back to being a great mother and spouse as she served them food and showed them affection as if nothing had happened. In the end, everyone was happy. Happiness came from ignorance. As long as nobody knew anything, everybody not only kept on with their lives, but they lived in joy. It kinda makes you wonder if it's worth sometimes telling the truth about somethings. As long as everybody's happy, why change it right? The truth could bring sadness that might even be unnecesary.

The Storm - Luis Bevilacqua

In the storm we see a story of infidelity, about how a man and a woman have relations together while they are in a relationship with someone else. the woman gets caught in the heat of the moment and gives in to the man's temptations. i believe the man did it because its just a tendency to be prone to sexual action as a man, but the woman was not being satisfied with her current husband so did what she did. They both did something wrong and I believe you pay for infidelity, they should be tossed out of their houses and pay emotionally. Their partners do not deserve what these two did to them. Althought hings happen in a moment of emotion and desperation you should be strong enough not to give in to these temptations.

Christopher Columbus day - Luis Bevilacqua

I really enjoyed this day in which we had a discussion about whether Columbus was a hero or not. It gave me a chance to express my views and discuss some interesting points about his contributions to our history. i believe he is a hero, very few heroes in history have been able to do a great deed without a sacrifice for the gerater good. There will always be blood in a change of culture, there will always be those who oppose, and if blood was not shed, the change would have come much later. We could possibly have ended up a third world country having to fend off for ourselves. I appreciate what he did for us and if I was in his place I would have done exactly the same thing. poeple have no clue what they want, they think they do but they dont. Give a culture a chance to evolve into the future and bring forth future eras of prosperity and they will not want it just because it will spill a few drops of blood to the ground. then so be it, let few suffer now, so that the future generations for decades to come can blossom from that very sacrifice. Try to feed a tiger and it will bite your arm off, because it doesnt know any better.

A Walk to the Jetty - Luis Bevilacqua

In this story Anne wakes up the day she is leaving for England to study to become a nurse. She is glad she is leaving her old life behind for good and knows she won't miss it. She thinks about it and knows she will not miss her mother or father or any of the people she knew through her childhood. She dreads that last morning but at the same time is happy because she knows she will be leaving. On the way to the boat they pass through all of the places that were important in her childhood and she starts to remember, like the library where she used to love to get books, or in the house where they used to take care of her and the lady would make her work hard. Once she gets on the jetty she feels sad because she will be leaving for good and finally starts to feel love for her parents and gives them one last hug before her mother leaves her to the care of the captain.

I Dont Want to Die - Luis Bevilacqua

I Dont Want to Die talked about an old man that was dying and before he died he told his friend he didn't want to die. It talks about living the moment and accepting what you really want to do in the moment. Not hiding behind feelings and just coming out with what is on your mind. For this story I did an activity where I closed my eyes and thought as if I was going to die and I tried to think that way to see the way I would feel in that very moment and embrace it. I closed my eyes and thought about all the happy moments in my life and how they would never come again. I saw the faces of all my loved ones smiling at me and slowly fading away like I would never get to appreciate those smiles in my life again. I lived the moment and accepted my feeling and it really felt awful and I wouldnt like to do it again.
